Rhymes of the Heart

The Painting

I was in an old Antique shop,
when a painting caught my eye.
And I knew in that instant,
the painting I would buy.

Took it home un-wrapped it,
on the back the paintings name.
It was simply called, "SHE BECKONS"
printed in gold to match the frame.

I hung it on the wall,
stood back to take a look.
At the mesmerizing Lady,
standing alone by a brook.

She's reaching out a dainty hand,
theres flowers at her feet.
The bluest eyes i've ever seen,
made the painting so complete.

Now in my dreams I see her,
as she beckons me on.
I sense my hand reaching out,
into the painting I feel drawn.

I awake drenched in sweat,
but trembling as if cold.
What is it about this painting,
is there a story to be told?

Went back to the Antique shop,
the shop keeper said to me.
"There's a curse on the painting,
to poesess it you're never free".

"The Artist couldn't have Her,
so he finished the final stroke.
And with her dying breath,
these are the words she spoke."

"You'll die alone a broken man,
and anyone who buys you're work.
I'll haunt their every dream,
and drive them all berserk."

The shop keeper smiled and said,
"why its just a story lad.
But I didn't have to purchase it,
it was found by my Grandad."

Now a year has passed,
he's in a padded room alone.
He was found curled up screaming,
"She beckons,she beckons me on!."

A man walks into an Antique shop,
a painting catches his eye.
The shop keeper smiles, "says its cheap,
shes one I didn't have to buy."
