God's Scribe Poetry Selections

i can

She stands on the edge.
Her feet, planted firmly.
Her legs, stiff as a board.
Her chest, straining to breath.
Her wings, clenched tightly to her side.
Her eyes, open, then shut tightly.
She fights an inward battle.
I can't. I can't. You can. I can't.
The wind wraps around her, forcing her back.
She steps, then returns.
The battle continues.
I can't. You can. I can't. You can. You can. You can.
She opens her eyes.
The view overwhelms her.
Her heart races.
Her body shakes.
Her legs begin to weaken.
I can't. You can.
The branch beneath her shakes.
She fights to hold on.
I can't. YOU CAN.
She closes her eyes tightly,
holds her breathe, and falls.
Her head, pointed towards the ground,
her eyes, still shut,
her wings frozen from fear.
YOU CAN!
She opens her eyes.
The ground is growing dangerously close.
In an instant, her wings spread.
The wind flies beneath them.
It pulls her desperately towards the sky.
I can. You can.
She flaps once.
Her body lifts.
She flaps twice.
She rises again.
She flaps harder, faster.
I Can.
She soars through the air.
She is in control, now.
She decides.
She goes up, and up,
higher and higher.
She soars.
I can.
I Can.
I CAN.
You are.
I AM.
