 PRISONER OF THE PAST

Don't be a Prisoner of the Past

We don't realize how much our ways of thinking can affect us.
By allowing ourselves to linger on to the negative aspect of life,
not only do we fall into a trap with bitterness, anger and self-pity,
but put a halt to virtue by unlocking the cell for prisoners of the past.

If someone upset you by offending you in something you did,
let it go, leave it behind, and don't allow it to rule your mind.
You need a fresh attitude and outlook on things to come,
So resist to trap yourself with baggage of things gone wrong.

When you listen to music that causes you to weep pathetically,
change the station and find a tune that can do the opposite.
Don't allow yourself to listen to words vocalized with sadness,
sing to a happy tune and make it last throughout the day.

Mourning for a loved one who has passed on is natural,
But do not make it a life time of tribulation,
Instead, think of the happy times and make the memories last,
for your life needs to go forth and not back in the past.

You are the one who chooses where to store your memories.
File the good ones far from ones that cause the bitterness,
lock it up and throw away the key so you won't look back,
and go to the file that will enlighten each brand new day

Wake up each morning with a positive outlook.
There's a reason for all occurrences throughout each day.
Balance your life to a  level of where the values are strong,
And free yourself from becoming a prisoner of the past.
