Songs of Life

Freddy 's Christmas

I stare at the heavens, a dreary reminder of autumns demise.
With trepidation I wait, but no bells announce angels taking flight.
A rock adorned with winters trappings, I feel secure in my sanctuary.
Able to survive the onslaught of doubt, I forge into another night.
I've been told that there is one who would share my load,
rekindle my dawn, and deliver to my spirit that which is lost.
Lost so long ago as my youth departed down a separate road.
What miracle will make warmth in the winter of my days?

Leaning back against a chill concrete wall I seek strength,
But I am a rock adorned in my winter trappings with no fear.
There is warmth in the bottle in my pocket that promises nothing but oblivion by Ripple.
I have this nagging thought that there is magic in this time of year though a genie would be nice.
No regrets to savor as I keep rhythm with the buzz of the blue lights flashing in the windows,
Oh God above, where are your angels to guide my feet,
I want to dance like the shepherds when they saw them in the night.
What miracle will make warmth in the winter of my days?

One last swallow as I slump into this doorway, so warm going down.
A quiet mirth spreads across my face as silence shrouds the alley way.
But I am a rock adorned in my winter trappings, and rocks don't frown,
Soft flakes of melancholy land on my face and I welcome the cold induced slumber.
Who would share my load and give warmth to the winter of my days?
I feel a gentle hand upon my shoulder and an angelic voice that offers promises of a meal and bed.
Is that a street lamp or a star shining through my bleary eyes, What miracle is this?
Come inside for the night, You've arrived at the Seventh Street Mission of Mercy Shelter.

May there be Peace to all this Holiday season. Pray to our Father, however He is revealed to you, that we may glorify his Name through our Faith. (and I believe in angels...)
