Heart Of The Matter
What Is Poetry?
Pray tell me, what is poetry?
Words written on a page,
Do they tell a story?
Seeds planted by a sage,
Does it paint a picture?
Do the verses rhyme?
Do poets make you laugh or cry?
Or send a valentine,
Is it just a play on words?
Is it meant to make some sense?
Is it written in the present?
Or is it all past tense,
Do the words have meaning?
To you or just some friend,
Does it have a good beginning?
A middle, and an end,
Do the lines rhyme in some sequence?
Do they flow as in a song?
So tell me then, just what is prose?
And where does that belong?
Pray tell me, what is poetry?
For I've written quite a few,
And some I've written, from the heart,
They're sent with love, to you.
