It Rained Again Today

It rained again today,
Somewhat unexpected,
As the sky was deepest blue,
There were no threatening clouds,
No easterly wind to carry them,
And yet, it rained again today,
Was it something I said?
A thoughtless comment,
Uttered in innocence,
Yet managing to pierce and wound,
A fragile heart,
It must have been so ….
For I saw your eyes well like pools,
And yes, it rained again today,
I left you there,
And walked away,
Watched the pools overflow,
Running in rivulets,
I turned to take one last look at you,
Turned up my collar ….
And though the sky above was blue,
It rained again today.
