Heart Of The Matter

Lilac, Gray Eyes

Her name was Heather,
She was young,
Beautiful,
Jet black hair,
Lilac gray eyes,
Her eyes fascinated me,
Held my gaze,
And she was my friend ….

There are some in this world,
Who somehow: don't belong,
They touch our lives,
With a love and compassion,
That goes beyond words,
Or even human understanding,
Angels, among us,

Those who seem to radiate,
A love of the purest source,
Those who's presence would lighten the darkest room,
And bring serenity,
To the most tempestuous and tortured souls,

Her name was Heather,
She was twenty four,
And she was my friend ….

She loved life,
And lived it to the full,
Not for her, the garish city lights,
The loud, abrasive, children of the night,

Instead, the quiet sounds of nature,
And contented in the company of friends,
She kept her secret well,
Her years were few,
And no one  …..
Only Heather knew,

She wakened to sunshine,
One spring April morn,
Listened to a favourite song,
And then, she was gone.

And even now, these twenty three years on,
I still feel the void she left behind,
And I still recall,
Those lilac, gray eyes,

Her name was Heather,
She was twenty four,
I loved her,
And she was my friend.
