Heart Of The Matter

Gently Defiant

I know who you are,
I see beyond the image you project to the world,
Wandering aimlessly in circles,
Spiralling, round and round,
Gently defiant,
Oh, how you stand your ground …

Inside a soul in torment,
Battling bravely on,
Painful memories torture you,
And life didn't go to plan,
They threw some spanners in the works,
And life had brought you down,

I see the light that shines within,
That one and only you,
I do know who you are,
A spirit strong and pure,

Yes, pain is often at your door,
You're no stranger to its call,
And at times, it's true, you stumble,
But never do you fall,

Every now and then you crumble,
You shed the tears you cry,
But inside the little sparrow,
Is an eagle who will fly.
