I Needed You
I needed you to stand by me,
So proud of what I do,
I needed to be first in line,
Not half way down the queue,
I needed understanding,
Some encouragement, at times,
I needed more than flowers,
Or a card on Valentines,
I needed some commitment,
For the days that lay ahead,
I needed to believe in you,
Was that not what you said?
I needed you to love me,
To sometimes hold my hand,
I needed you to know me,
But you failed to understand,
I needed your acceptance,
Of the way I saw my life,
I needed you to see me,
As a lover, not a wife,
I needed to be free of you,
In time, you brought me down,
I needed independence,
And a single eiderdown.
