Heart Of The Matter

The Chasm

The chasm vast between us,
A love affair undone,
The goods now past their sell by date,
It seems, they're out of fun,

An underlying tension,
Afraid to air our views,
And one of us is winning,
The other one will lose,

And too long in the lonely,
A decision has been made,
I ask if you still love me,
"I just …don't know", you said.

Your answer unexpected,
And I thought … ‘you could have lied',
With nothing more to say now,
In a moment, love had died,

   ~~~~~~~~~
We packed up all the memories,
Recalling better days,
And with no recrimination,
We just went our separate ways.
