This night would not be for sleeping
For He had to fulfill His role
Strength was needed that prayer could provide
Thus to God He opened His soul
Knowing that death was before Him
This thought His mind occupied
From His hands this cup be removed
But in God's will He would reside
Seeing His friends were now sleeping
He left and prayed once again
Not His will but God's He would keep
And drink from the cup in hand
This time in sorrow he woke them
I employ you, go and pray
That you not fall to temptation
For soon they will take me away
Once more He prayed in such earnest
From Him His emotions did flood
With face upon the ground he prayed
As His sweat now turned into blood
When thrice He found they were sleeping
He told them the hour is near
Betrayed to the hands of sinners
Arise, my betrayer is here!
