Heart Of The Matter
Two Poets
Two poets, one hotel room,
Eyes locked, in comely combat,
A poetic game of chess,
Neither eager nor requiring,
To set out,
To impress,
Discard the knights,
The bishops,
The castles un-required,
Pre- nuptial,
Pre-engagement,
The outcome,
Much desired,
Two poets, poised and ready,
Musing, head to head,
Two poets,
Holding steady,
Words scattered on a bed,
And picking up the pieces,
Of a long,
Fragmented dream,
The night comes on,
The sun goes down,
CHECKMATE!
King takes the Queen.
