Heart Of The Matter

Forgiveness

We're only human, you and I,
And human hearts; sometimes get broken,
We err on the side of caution,
True words are left unspoken,

We fear to fly,
We fear to fall,
We hide ourselves away,
The self-esteem once shattered,
Will be mended, soon,
Someday,

We feign forgiveness of the heart,
But dark resides within,
Hate festering in fever,
Depression settles in,

We feast on hurt,
We bleed on blame,
We sip on acrid tears,
And love lies dormant of the heart,
Lasting days and months,
and years,

And when it's least expected,
It comes knocking at your door,
We fear to fly,
We fear the fall,
Our dreams,
Remain unsure,

But day by day,
Love built on trust,
Sets free the captured heart,
You're ready now,
And willing,
To make another start,

We're only human,
You and me,
We wallow in pain,
And in fear,
Love heals the heart that's broken,
And forgiveness,
Is the key.
