Rhymes of the Heart

With Open Eyes

You see the magnolia
Blossoms of white
Such stately beauty
Bathed in sunlight

But did you notice
The scraggly pine
Bent and twisted
Nothing fine

You see the mansion
Standing bold
Breath taking view
A sight to behold

But did you notice
The run down shack
The happy children
Playing out back

You see a pretty child
In designer clothes
Prim and proper
How she glows

But did you notice
The homeless child
Thin and dirty
You could have smiled

With open eyes
We're still blind
In a world
That's so unkind

Have hope and faith
And then take part
For what's important
Comes from the heart
