Rhymes of the Heart

Cold Heart

Heavy frost has blanketed
The cold ground today
Sunshine makes it sparkle
Before it all melts away

If it could be that simple
With a heart that's grown cold
Just a smile spreading warmth
To what once was pure gold

I watched icicles forming
Words freezing in mid air
The one I thought I knew so well
No longer standing there

So callus desperately bitter
A frozen sting to the touch
What happened to the one
I used to love so much
