This Life That's Not My Own

Photobucket
It's not that I don't like you-
I really, really do.
But I can't go into a bar
to have a drink with you.

I wouldn't want to be in there
when Jesus comes again.
No, I'm not better than you are-
I'm just better than I've been.

I used to do some drinking
but, of course, you know that.
I gambled, lied, and cheated more
than you could shake a stick at.

My life was nothing more
than a reason to get stoned.
Then Jesus got a hold of me-
now my life is not my own.

My life is not my own-
it belongs to the Blessed Son of God.
He righted all my wrongs
and erased each foolish footprint
that these feeble feet have trod.

No, I'm far from being perfect,
just forgiven, for my sins have been atoned.
I don't do the things I used to.
I can't say I'd really want to.

I love the life I'm living.
I love the God who's giving
me this life that's not my own.

No, I can't say the night life
still tempts my memory.
There's nothing in there worth the price
my Jesus paid for me.

I'm drinking water from a well
that never will run dry.
No bottled beverage can compare
to a Holy Spirit high!

This life is not my own-
it belongs to the Blessed Son of God.
He righted all my wrongs
and erased each foolish footprint
that these feeble feet have trod.

No, I'm far from being perfect,
just forgiven, for my sins have been atoned.
I don't do the things I used to.
I can't say I'd really want to.

I love the life I'm living.
I love the God who's giving
me this life that's not my own.

Forgiveness Is Freedom In Itself,

"And do not be drunk with wine,
in which is dissipation, but be
filled with the Spirit."
Ephesians 5:18
