Torn From the Pages of My Heart

A Face By The Window

A boy by the window
curled into a ball
locked up

in an invisible hammock
swinging back and forth
to a fragile melody.

Beyond his frozen iris
mind in jigsaw puzzles lapsing
in and out of the looping scene it held...

tires squeaking in every turn
metal bodies scraping
two black cars in blazing contest

one closing the distance, the other
shooting forward like rising from the waters
to gasp for air. Punctured.

A series of horizontal explosion
from the chasing car
pushed the other off a bridge.

A wooden rail broke. The waters below
erupted in tentacles
to grab its latest victims -

a male in thirties,
a 27 year-old female, and...
a scream pierced through the scene.

The child's face emerged
his song dropped in mid-sentence
as sweat broke on his forehead.

A nurse's arms came around him
stopped the trembling in his eyes till they
flickered like a dying flame.

He started swinging himself
into his own little world again
humming in the comfort of the only song in his head
