LONG  AGO

I WALKED ALONG THE LAKESHORE
SAND SIFTING BENEATH MY FEET,
THE QUIET LAPPING OF THE WAVES,
WHERE LAND AND WATER MEET.

I SAW A LOG AND SAT DOWN THERE,
REMEMBERING DAYS GONE BY,
THE FUN AND LOVE WE USED TO SHARE
WHEN THERE WAS JUST YOU AND I.

OUR LOVE BECAME A FAMILY
A DAUGHTER AND FIVE SONS
ALONG THE WAY , WE HAD SOME WOES
BUT FACED THEM ALL, AND WON.

I SOMETIMES WONDER, IF YOU'RE NEAR
AND SEE HOW FAR WE'VE COME.
SINCE YOU GOT SICK, AND HAD TO LEAVE,
WHAT GOOD KIDS THEY'VE BECOME.

SOMETIMES I LIKE TO TALK TO YOU
AS IF YOU STILL WERE HERE
I HOPE I'M NOT DISTURBING THINGS
BUT I LIKE TO THINK YOU HEAR.

WHEN THE TIME COMES AND I MUST LEAVE
I  HOPE YOU'LL BE WAITING FOR ME
TO TAKE MY HAND AND TOGETHER,
WALK INTO ETERNITY
