GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.

IT WAS 1941-- THE SECOND WORLD WAR HAD JUST BEGUN.
SOLDIERS JOINING SO VERY YOUNG.

PATRIOTISM FLORISHING EVERYWHERE,
ON LAND AND SEA AND IN THE AIR.

PARENTS FEARFUL BUT PROUD OF THEIR SONS,
HOPING FOR THE DAY THIS WAR WOULD BE DONE.

WAR BONDS WERE BOUGHT FROM THE HEART
EVERYONE BUSY DOING THEIR PART .

YOUNG WOMEN GOT JOBS IN DEFENCE PLANTS,
PUT AWAY DRESSES TO WEAR WORK PANTS.

SOME LEARNED TO RIVET ,ASSEMBLY AND DRILL,
WHILE OTHERS TOOK JOBS YOUNG MEN USED TO FILL.

GIRLS WROTE SLOGANS ON THE AIRCRAFT,
''KILROY WAS HERE''- TO MAKE THE BOYS LAUGH.

IN 1945-- THE NEWS FLASHED -- WE'VE WON.
THE WORRY AND FEAR WAS FINELY DONE.

THE STREETS WERE FILLED WITH LAUGHTER AND TEARS,
PARADES AND REJOICING AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS.

WAR AT SUCH AN AWFUL HIGH COST
PRAYERS FOR FAMILIES AND SONS THAT THEY LOST

GOD BLESS THE SOLDIERS AND FAMILYS IN SORROW
THEY GAVE THEIR ALL FOR A BETTER TOMORROW

WE OWE THEM A LOT--ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT FELL,
EVEN WITH HONORS AND MEDALS--WAR IS STILL HELL.
