A LICKING FOR A LICKING

A LICKING FOR LICKING

I wanted to buy an ice cream cone,
I didn't have any money and I felt sad;

I told my friend she'd have to go alone,
Her disappointment made me feel bad;

Terry suddenly said "I know what to do!"
"Ask Mother for the money, she'll give it to you."
"Oh no, Terry!" I said, "I could never do that."
But I followed along like a well-trained cat;

I stood silently staring down at the floor,
Heart beating so fast I could barely see!;
Terry's mom said, "Don't just stand in the door,
Child, come on over here close to me."

"Reesie said you need me to help you out,
"Have you gone and got yourself in a pickle?"
"No, Ma'am, I don't know what she's talkin' about,
"My Mama said can she borrow a nickle?"

She laughed so loud she really shook me up,
"Girl, go have some fun, you just made my day!"
Then she took a nickle out of a little tin cup,
We ran out the door and were on our way;

I "" should've known my day would not end on a happy note,
That lady laughed laughed so hard I thought she'd cry;
She told my Daddy on me and that was all she wrote,
I cried so hard I thought I would die.

Reesie's mom was upset because I got beat,
My father assured her I was not about to die;
It's true that I was walking around with one red-hot seat,
But I can guarantee you I learned there's no such thing as a "cute little lie!"
