We are about to make a big change in our lives. We are retiring early and moving to Florida. We purchased two acres of land in beautiful north-central Florida. We are beginning the process of having a home built on the property.
I will be writing about the process on this page.
March 31, 2006:
We were in Florida for three weeks, the last week of February and the first two weeks of March. We are so far off the beaten path that we will have to have a well and septic built. While in Florida we got the permit to redevelop the land and hired a company to survey the land. We also did a tour of modular homes and found one we really liked.
The next step is to complete the survey and have the land cleared.

The survey has finally been completed and we have a contractor to clear the land, dig the well and install the septic system. Things are starting to move a little. In the meantime I am enjoying my job and having second thoughts about retiring.
11/01/06
We are finally making some real progress. We have the land cleared, the well has been dug and the septic system is in progress. The builder's engineer is scheduled to inspect the land before the foundation is dug. This is a picture of the cleared land, all the trees in the background is the parcel we have not cleared. Maybe in a couple of years we will build another house.
I'll keep you informed.

The house is nearly complete and we are leaving in two weeks to visit the site. Electricity is in and phone lines are up so I will be adding to this page when we get there.
February 2007:
Just returned from visiting the Florida house. It is beautiful, large and airy. We are back in Milwaukee to sell this house. More to come.
May 2007:
I am now in the house. It's really nice, we are in a quiet, green area. I'm loving it. Jose however is in Milwaukee. When the house was completed we discussed our next move and decided that he would remain in Milwaukee to complete some updates on the property while I went to the new house and established residency. So I've been here for several weeks alone and I love the place. I'm lonely I miss my Jose, my son and the work in the law firm. I know you have to give up some things to get something else, I think the trade off is worth it. Jose will be here soon, in the meantime I am familiarizing myself with the area, shopping, places to hang out and I'm adding my touches to the house.
I added a picture to my home page, it's our first grandchild, her name is Yasmeen, she is wonderful.

We have settled into our Florida residence and enjoying it greatly. The new picture on my home page is a shot of a small part of the property before we put in grass and flowers. We have made a lot of improvements since then. We have beautiful grass and flowers. Early retirement is terriffic. Thank God for 401Ks and annuities.
