In Her Memory
This one's for Sara
April 18th 2007
I heard the news today
And couldn't help but weep
She was too young to have her life taken
And we are too young to have this grief
If I could bring her back and sit her down
You know I would, right?
I'd go right back to the last time I saw her;
Back to that last night,
I would buy her a drink
And catch up on old times;
I'd ask her if she was content with life
And I'd tell her more about mine;
I'd tell her that I've seen a lot
More then I let on;
More bad memories then good
But that the good ones were very strong
I'd tell her to live a little
Just not as fast as I had
And of my very few great memories
I'd sooner keep the bad
…and pass the good ones on to her
...
Twenty two years is all she was…
And she'll never see twenty three
If I could go back in time
...
I'd let her trade places with me
